The victim, well-known for his efforts to reconcile feuding individuals, was visiting the wife, an interpreter at his church, who had reportedly been unwell.
The couple, who were not officially separated, had a history of frequent disputes and lived apart.
According to sources, the husband arrived at the wife’s residence in the early hours of the morning and found Bishop Olaribigbe there.
A confrontation ensued, culminating in the husband allegedly stabbing the clergyman in the chest.
“A heated argument ensued, and in a fit of anger, the man took a knife and stabbed the pastor in the chest. Olaribigbe died on the spot,” a source close to the church, who requested anonymity, stated.
Both the husband and wife have been detained by the Dugbe Police Division, while the bishop’s remains have been deposited at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital morgue.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola noting that the suspect may have acted out of suspicion that the pastor was involved in an affair with his wife. “We were told that the husband stabbed the pastor multiple times, killing him,” Opalola said.
