I am neither a fan nor a supporter of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today or in the near future. But if you vote in a General Election that defines 18 years as the defining age of qualification then you are an adult and thus qualified to go to prison for any crime against the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Demonstrations and protests are carried out by people defined as adults by law. So if you participate in anti-Government protests and demonstrations you are assumed to be an adult. It means that you should face whatever consequences that come out of such actions. You cannot be defined as an adult in a General Election that elected the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and at the same time expect to be defined as underage in anti-Government demonstrations. This is quite unfair in law.

Those who seek equity must come with clean hands. A 10-year old little girl that gives birth to a child has become a mother and no longer a child; in the same manner a boy of 10 years who impregnated her has become a father and no longer a little boy.

  1. What has the general elections and voting or adult suffrage got to do with a malicious assault on innocent children, who probably were picked up from their various streets and playgrounds by booth leaking and overzealous law enforcement agents . You have passed judgement on the children based on the charges brought against them . Which is unfair and defeats the spirit of fair hearing.
Even God did not pass judgement on Adam until He had given him opportunity to defend himself.

It is against the principles of natural justice and the constitution to detain anyone without a requisite order of court to do so . Why were these children kept and poorly fed for one whole month before charging them to court.

These things were what our president Tinubu fought against the military that made him go into self exile .

Children are children , our constitution never defined age by actions like you tried to analyze, misleading though.
What happened was an abuse and those involved should bury their heads in shame.

  2. Two wrongs don’t make a right. While it’s true that there were massive underage voting in the recent past elections, that still doesn’t make the children adults by any standard. Doing that would amount to legitimizing illegitimacy. Same way it’s not also right to allow children to participate in demonstration, even when peaceful, nor using them as child soldiers. The fact that these children were used in protest is a sign of the degeneration in the society.
This is tantamount to chid neglect and abuse. The menace needs urgent government intervention. To turn around to punish these children for this is playing the ostrich, and more of chasing shadows.
The government has the responsibility of rehabilitating this children rather than penalizing them because most of those kids are completely naive and were just having fun.
Maturity and responsibility is what’s expected from the government, not overreaction and acts of self-righteousness!
