The recent statement credited to the much discredited Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle instructing the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to crack down on people calling for military take-over of the Government is likened to a leper threatening those demanding his seclusion. The armed forces, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Directorate of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force are all made up of Nigerian citizens who are not oblivious of the current state of political precipice in Nigeria.
There is no special market set aside for members of Nigerian security agencies. There is no special price for a cup of rice set aside for members of the Nigerian armed forces, the Police and DSS. The Nigerian security agencies do not have separate Nigerian currency. They use the same naira and are paid their salaries in the same naira like ordinary citizens. Only politicians like Bello Matawalle have the privilege of illicit U.S dollars at their disposal.
Putting on army or Police uniform is not an immunity to hunger. Members of the Nigerian security agencies have suffered as much in the count of victims as the ordinary citizens in the hands of armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen, Muslim Bandits, Boko Haram, and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), all created by the same Bello Mohammed Matawalle and his band of criminal politicians. It is therefore only a stupid military officer who will go after any Nigerian citizen calling for military take-over to save Nigeria. God will not spare such a security official and his family when judging Bello Matawalle and his stinking criminal politicians.
It is not only embarrassing to the already putrid image of Nigeria before the international community to have such a morally bankrupt and fantastically corrupt politician as Bello Matawalle occupying the exalted office of Minister of State for Defence, but an ignominious slap on the integrity and sense of moral judgment of any sensible Nigerian, both military and non-military. If Nigeria were to be a politically civilized and democratically sane nation, somebody like Bello Matawalle should either be in his ignominious grave by now after facing special military firing squad or, if he is so damn lucky, cooling off in a maximum security prison, for his heinous and treasonable crimes against humanity and his country. Ironically, this is the same man occupying a first-grade Federal Ministry as Minister and above all has the effrontery to threaten any Nigerian citizen who calls for a rescue military intervention.
Are hundreds of Nigerians not dying ignominiously every day from the hands of his sponsored Muslim Fulani herdsmen, bandits, Boko Haram, ISWAP, and now hunger? It is no longer the problem of security of lives and property from the hands of Islamic terrorists and kidnappers but that of hunger in a land blessed with abundance of human and food resources, all created by Bello Matawalle and his stinking politicians. Which Nigerian knows if he would wake up alive the next day, or return alive from his job trip in the next few hours?
Just imagine Bello Matawalle’s stupid statement moronically painting the current dark specter of the Nigerian political situation into satanic white:
“Nigeria is a peaceful country where citizens enterprise, no uprising, no mass protest, and just because criminal elements attacked a warehouse and a haulage vehicle carrying food items to other parts of the country, is not enough reason for unpatriotic individuals to resort to call for military intervention which has no place in modern realities. The military is highly professionalised with good Civil-Military relationship and they are exhibiting the highest standard of professionalism with the defence of our constitution as a top priority.”
I need not waste my much cherished time and energy delving into the insane and morally cacophonic allusion of Nigeria as a peaceful country, which is no doubt treasonable by felony; but to refer to the innocent but hungry Nigerian masses who invaded Federal Government warehouses stocked with idle food items and haulage vehicles belonging the likes of Bello Matawalle while people are dying of hunger, as “criminal elements”, is a clear evidence of the height of extreme insensitivity and celebrative wickedness to the current state of hunger and insecurity in Nigeria. The likes of Bello Matawalle are priding the Federal Republic of Nigeria for receiving grain donation from war-torn Ukraine, and they want patriotic and patriotic Nigerians to believe those currently governing Nigeria are sane human beings.
But the question is, between Bello Matawalle and the hungry Nigerian masses, who should be described as the real criminal before God in Heaven and earth, and the morally upright Nigerians? As Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle sat over the criminal and illegal mining and appropriation of gold resources, which appropriately should be a Federal Government concern, promoting and subsequently using insecurity created by armed Muslim bandits as protective political cover.
In 2021, Bello Matawalle donated 15 brand new Toyota Hilux trucks worth millions of naira to Bandits as a gesture of support. There had been weird instances of Bello Matawalle instructing the members of the Nigeria armed forces to grant safe passage to the same bandits that have been killing them and slaughtering defenceless citizens. This is the same State a committee set up by him to investigate the menace of armed banditry in the State, headed by a former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, reported that in Zamfara State alone, “between June 2011 and May 2019, 4,983 women were widowed; 25,050 children were orphaned; and more than 190,000 people were displaced as a result of armed banditry.”
On December 4, 2023, even while already the Minister of State for Defence, a Federal High Court sitting at Sokoto dismissed a suit filed by Bello Matawalle over more than 50 vehicles belonging to Zamfara State Government he stole. In a normal country governed by sane people, will such a man be walking free on the streets much more being appointed a Minister of State for Defence? Many of these vehicles were recovered buried underground by Bello Metawalla in the same manner his Zamfara State citizens frequently bury their victims of his sponsored Islamic bandits. In other words, to Bello Matawalle if human beings could be buried in mass graves like animals, why shouldn’t stolen vehicles be buried alike?
Ironically the same Bello Matawalle referred to those agitating for military coup as “agents of darkness.” Let Nigerians judge between those of us calling for military coup in order to save the nation before catastrophic destruction and Bello Matawalle, who are the real agents of darkness.
Suffice to say that recently a woman walked into a Police Station in Anambra State, dropped her children and committed suicide. We have witnessed many instances of people jumping into Lagos Lagoon, willfully jumping into running vehicles and committing outright traditional suicide with rope, all out of the extreme economic frustration and hardship created by Bello Matawalle and his hocus-pocus corrupt political soul-mates. This is the situation created by Bello Matawalle and his addled-brained political leaders of Nigeria and he believes that the professionalism of the Nigerian military is defined by their protection of criminal politicians like him against the collective interests of the Nigerian masses. Bello Matawalle in the said shameless threatening statement stated, that “the Military has come to reality with democratic Government in Nigeria and are focused on their constitutional duty of defending the constitution.”
Does the military’s constitutional duty of defending the Nigerian constitution entail defending the unconstitutional oppression of the same people the same constitution was made to protect? Any constitution that cannot be operated within the context of its meaning and legality in the service of the collective welfare and protection of the people should automatically be deemed unconstitutional and by the same token, the military will be at liberty to throw it into the pit of political infamy.
Those Nigerians who witnessed the events leading to the January 15, 1966 coup will agree that the current Nigerian situation has geometrically exceeded the pre-January 15, 1966 situation by more than three times progression. Was Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu not therefore right when he described the likes of Bello Matawalle in the following most sordid terms:
“Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds.”
As it stands today, Nigerians have no other place to lean towards except the military for the salvation of the country, protection of its dignity, and assurance of the lives of the citizens. Is it the judiciary? This is dead by every definition of a morally upright judiciary in a judicious democratic system. As Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, JSC, GCON, memorably put it:
“If you are a judge and you are corrupt where do we go from here? Then everything has come to a halt. If the legislature is corrupt, you go to the judiciary for redress, if the executive is corrupt you go to the judiciary for remedy, if the judiciary itself is corrupt where do you go from there. That is a question, where do you go? To God whom you don’t see? To history which is past? To the future that hasn’t come? Today is here, so let us use it.”
Yes, as Justice Chukwudifu Oputa rightly concluded, “Today is here, so let us use it.” and that “Today” currently begging Nigeria is a military coup, not by Generals of the class of Generals Christopher Musa and Lagbaja, but by those young officers anointed with the patriotic spirits of Major Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Major Gideon Kwaza Orkar, Captain Jerry John Rawlings of Ghana and Captain Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso. Nigerians are hotly in need of the current experiences of the people of Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Gabon Republics.
Historical records have proven that past military Governments in Nigeria, starting with General Yakubu Gowon and excluding Major General Muhammadu Buhari, in spite of their autocratic leanings, advanced more infrastructural developments than the so-called democratic governments succeeding them. The “Face” of Lagos State Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu surreptitiously appropriate as his making was indeed created by successive military Governments. Nigerians had experienced benevolent military regimes led by such Heads of State as Generals Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, whose regimes were more humane and people-oriented than the current crop of fraudulent political leaders under a fraudulent democracy.
Joseph Addison made it clear to us that: “No oppression is so heavy or lasting as that which is inflicted by the perversion and exorbitance of legal authority.” Those who are apprehensive of a possible military take-over are the present corrupt and murderers of democracy made up of Ahmed Bola Tinubu and his cohorts, the notorious officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Quota-Professor Mamood Yakubu and, the morally rancid corrupt judges represented by Justice Haruna Tsammani and Justice John Inyang Okoro.
As General Norman Schwarzkopf of United States Army pointedly stated, “It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.” Therefore, any soldier or officer of the Nigeria Armed Forces who witnessed the barefaced rape of democracy in the last Presidential election and still believes that a credible change is not desired by means of military coup, is either an accomplice to the crime against the people or, is too cowardly to speak out and act in accordance with the will of majority of Nigerians.
As things stand at the moment, there is no magic wand possessed by these spiritually corrupt political leaders that will turn Nigeria around for the better. Mind you, we are talking of a band of corrupt politicians who came to power through fraudulent elections conducted by a fraudulent INEC, and certified by a fraudulent Appeal and Supreme Courts. No way! Clean water even in a clean cup, once placed in a leprous hand can no longer be deemed clean. So long as Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu continues in authority as the President of Nigeria, the nation will continue to slide from bad to worse. You cannot choose to be the agent of devil and expect God to work through you. Never!
The only and by far the best option to a quick and preemptive solution to the current deadly economic and political situation in Nigeria is not by living in vagabond-style gangrenous insensitivity and empty rhetoric of untenable solutions, while at the same time reeling in Luciferian squandermania woven in putrid corruption; but by removing all the corrupted elements and edifices of within the entire political framework of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And the only instrument needed to clean this political Augean stable is military coup.
A military intervention will rightfully eliminate all the stupendous cost of running the National Assembly and State Houses of assembly, including with bloated costs of running unproductive Federal and State Parastatals. This will momentarily bring financial stability to the nation and subsequent justifiable starting point for rebuilding the crumbled economy and maintaining a stable polity.
A military regime will also not have the likes of Bello Matawalle as Governors and Ministers to clandestinely protect and cooperate with the Islamic Bandits, Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram and ISWAP. Kidnappers will also understand that they will not have morally rusty political godfathers to their rescue. Nigerian citizen are not created by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; rather they created the Constitution to serve them. Therefore if the same Constitution becomes a renegade, then it should be thrown off.
The members of Nigerian armed forces should not allow themselves to be likened to Evan Wright’s “American little pit bull”, which according to him, “They beat it, starve it, mistreat it, and once a while they let it out to attack somebody.” This time, the Nigerian armed forces should rather act as the protector of the oppressed masses against Bello Matawalle’s Devilish instruction. The armed forces should wake up from slumber and instead go against those who are sending them against the oppressed masses; for what define the masses today in Nigeria are collective hunger and insecurity, and members of the Nigerian armed forces cannot extricate themselves from these twin evils mercilessly rampaging in Nigeria today.
